Brussels City Waves

Community art project with the goals of bringing members of very diverse organisations together to create a collective project.

From the first conversations with the members it became clear that they wanted to work together on solidarity, a common denominator within all organisations and something that they miss in Brussels.
The group expressed a wish to combine different artforms. We started developing a piece of music based on the rhythm of the city. This was followed by a poetry session and a dance sessions where text and movement were added to the music. The music was then digitally converted into the form of a soundwave and this is visually elaborated as a flag in the form of that soundwave.

For the second part of the project we travelled to many of the Brussels municipalities with the flag inviting participants to add to the flag by embroidering something on it that for them expresses solidarity.
The flag, which is still becoming longer and more colourful at each location, will be a visual reminder of solidarity at every place where it will ever be exhibited.
