SCROL DOWN FOR THE PEACEUNIQUE PHOTO-TOUR!
PeaceUnique is an art project that is created through people’s experiences and thoughts about the concept of “peace”.
Why Peace?
At first: In our project we refer to peace as some kind of mental state, the political sense of the word is much less of importance to our context.
Though it might be in many different ways, peace is a subject that appeals to everyone. The search for peace in our daily lives is something we can all connect to. On the other hand we see that the lack of peace is the start of many problems and frustrations, not only in our own lives but in society as well.
With this project we hope to create more awareness over the subject of personal peace, an awareness that comes from within the people. Therefor we are not here to preach, we are listening and trying to bring the concept of peace to life.
What fascinates us most about this subject is to discover a new way to exhibit how different and yet how alike we all are!
Our search for stories about personal peace consisted of interviewing and filming 25 different people (from different ages , backgrounds , careers , believes). Now we have collected all the stories and thoughts we will share them through an art-exhibition in H30 Artistic workspace in Malines (Belgium). As a centerpiece of this exhibition we want to build an interactive installation in which the experiences and stories are re-created in form and design. This provides the audience with a chance to experience “peace” at first hand.
The first exhibition of PeaceUnique took place on the 18th, 19th and 20th of april 2014 in H30, Hanswijkstraat 30, 2800 Malines (Mechelen).

- Welcome to PeaceUnique
- For your first stop…
- In this cosy space you find a short film where people speak about the place that is most peaceful for them. Including two little girls who find most peace in their beds surrounded by stuffed animals who you can tell all your thoughts.
- Take place in the H30 caravan
- Seated on this bench you get to know the creators a bit. Justina on one screen and Suzanne on the other, asking each other questions about what we associate with peace. As a spectator you find yourself literally in the middle of this conversation.
- The next space was called the coloured room.
- While the people speak about how colour influences their experience of peace, the wall around you change colour by changing lights, so you can feel yourself how colour influences your mood.
- Throughout the whole building you could find boards with different questions about your experience of peace, triggering you to find your own answers.
- Peace is for me…
- Now it is your turn… What is peace for you?
- In the third space we introduce you to all 25 people we interviewed about Peace. Young, old, from all walks of life and all with their own perspectives. On this wall you find also little canvasses on which they illustrated their vision of the subject.
- Take off your shoes
- Then… Have a nice moroccan mint-tea
- And crawl into our circle of thoughts
- Here you can lay down and watch a 30 min movie of people sharing their most strong thoughts on peace and how it influences their lives.
- On the other side you find a silent projection of the peaceful/thoughtful moments during the interviews
- The sound forest
- Seven cocoons made out of a soft hairy fabric that hugs you all around when you enter them. In every cocoon you can hear a certain sound that came out of our research as most peaceful sounds.
